The idea behind this post is to make a list of the top 10 non-essential Drupal modules I consider that everybody ought to have or at least know about. I do not want to make just another Top 10 list of all the most important modules, that has been done so many times before, so you will not find the typical modules like Pathauto, Views and similar modules on this list, but you will find others that I consider "must-have" but not crucial.
Norwegian version of this post: Topp 10 ikke-essensielle Drupal moduler
- FireStats
FireStats is a statistics-system that you install on your server and connect with Drupal trough this module.
FireStats can be found at FireStats.cc
I am also proud to say that I translated FireStas to norwegian ("FireStats oversatt til norsk").
- SEO Checklist
SEO Checklist is a module to guide you in setting up your drupalsite in the most Search Engine Optimal way, Which can be usefull for us that is new to that subject.
- wp2drupal
This is the tool I used when migrating from Wordpress to Drupal, it makes it very easy to move all the content from one system to another.
Extremly usefull, but I doubt you will use it more than once, if you do not have several sites you want to migrate.
- Taxonomy Multi Editor
Is a practical tool when you want to add/remove/change cathegories for more than a few posts at a time, just imagine yourself manually editing the cathegories for 300 blogposts.
- Taxonomy hide
If you do have some vocabularies that is just for internal cathegorization and you don't want thoose cathegories to show because it's almost always the same, on my site we sort this way on language, so the categories we hide is: Norsk, English and Español.
- Tagadelic
If you want one of this fancy tagclouds that you can see on the sidebar here then this is the module for you
- Search 404
Instead of letting you guests just see a page that says "page not found" when entering an invalid adress you can make them see the sites searchengine so that they can find what they are looking for.
- Multiping
This module comes instead of the rather lousy ping.module that comes default with Drupal, finaly you have the possibility of pinging more than one site.
If you use the Drupal 5.x you will find the module here: http://stefan.ploing.de/linux/drupal
- SignIt
A module to make petitionlists, very usefull if you for example have a political-action-site.
